MANX SOLIDARITY FUND CLOSES TO APPLICATIONS ON NOVEMBER 15TH 2021

MONDAY, 1ST NOVEMBER 2021

The Manx Solidarity Fund was founded in March 2020 with a clear purpose - to assist those who were suffering financial hardship as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, we have been privileged to support hundreds of individuals, businesses and community organisations, and have been humbled by the generosity, kindness and incredible community spirit shown by the Manx people in an extraordinary time of need.

However, as the pandemic has progressed, it has become harder to identify applicants to the Manx Solidarity Fund who meet our objectives as a charity. While we are receiving a much-reduced number of applications from worthwhile causes, it has become more difficult to clearly identify connections between these causes and our objectives. As a result, we have come to the decision to close applications to the Fund from Monday 15th November 2021, and donations effective immediately.

This decision has not been taken lightly. We are conscious that the pandemic and its repercussions continue to impact the Island. Our decision to close our applications does not indicate that the pandemic is over.

This is why the Manx Solidarity Fund will use the next few months to identify eligible charities on the Isle of Man that also provide support to individuals who are suffering hardship as a result of Covid-19, as well as charities whose ability to raise funds have been impeded by the pandemic. The small remaining funds currently held by the Manx Solidarity Fund will be distributed amongst this group of charities to ensure that support continues to be available to those who need it.

There are a huge number of people we would like to thank for supporting the Manx Solidarity Fund since its inception. Our generous donors have allowed us to deliver grants to those who need it most, while our fantastic volunteers have given up their time to attend our events. Countless organisations have pledged their support and spread the word of the Fund in different ways, and, of course, we would like to thank our brilliant colleagues here at the Manx Solidarity Fund.

The past 18 months have reinforced to us all the remarkable strength of our Island’s community spirit. It’s a spirit that saw so many people come together to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic. We want to thank you all for being there to support us.
